Meet the gardeners who make sure our products are the best.
The gardeners at Blackwell’s Grove are the people behind some of the most popular plants in America. Along with the professional landscapers, they are responsible for creating and managing one of the most important ecosystems on Earth. They work with a coalition of plant breeders to develop new plants that will outlive us all.
Over their time together, these gardeners have ventured into uncharted territory – using science and technology to bring back extinct plants and to develop new hybrids and variations. It is up to these professional plant lovers to ensure that our gardens are as sustainable as possible.
Single Tree
We have access to the best and most sought-after specimen Lawn Trees. Whether you need a very large tree, or are seeking rare horticultural beauty, we can help.
Shrubs
The sad truth is, not all shrubs are treated with love. Often they are raised as 'foundation plantings' and considered 'disposable'. We treat our shrubs with care and respect.
Rare Plants
Rare Horticulture is our Specialty. We are part of a coalition of rare and hybrid collector's network that is passionate about botanical jewels.
Integrated Ecologies
Respectful of the fact that plants thrive in Complex Adaptive Connectomes known as niche ecosystems, we strive to integrate every plant with its allied resonances. In this way we honor the Whole Systems approach to Ecological Sustainability.
Blackwell's Grove Greenhouses
Blackwell’s Grove Professional Greenhouse is a leader in the horticulture industry. Our company has been continuously developing and upgrading the greenhouse complex since the early 80s. This is where we specialize in developing hybrid plants and using advanced horticulture, such as micropropagation, tissue culture, and biotechnology for these purposes.
In 2005, after our third decade in business, we adopted an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP)
that allows all employees to earn stock and share in company profits. As part of the 10-01 Organization umbrella, we are pioneers in the field of Complex Adaptive Holarchies and proud to honor their commitment to Excellence in Leadership.

The term “organic” has become synonymous with wholesomeness and purity. Organic farming practices are free from use of pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizers which means no chemicals or artificial ingredients are being introduced into the environment by these methods. This not only means that organic food is better for your body but also for our planet as it produces less greenhouse emissions than conventional farming methods do because it uses less energy and resources to produce their fruits and vegetables. We consume the food that we raise and for the best in Health, Vitality, Organic Goodness, Pesticide Free, non-GMO, nutrition you can’t beat growing itself in your own well-composted garden soil.
Hot composting has been a popular practice in organic gardening for quite some time. It is a method of turning kitchen scraps and other organic materials into nutrient-rich soil that can be used to grow abundant produce right on the windowsill or backyard.
The art of hot composting entails combining ‘brown’ matter: kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, brown leaves; with garden trimmings, green manure, leaves and other ‘green’ materials (which can include grass clippings) to create a hot pile which will then break down organic matter and release nutrients into the soil. This process is also known as actively decomposing or biological decomposition. The heat generated from the pile makes it easier for microbes to break down the waste materials that form your compost bin and does a better job with suppressing weed seeds.
What could be more fun than being able to grow your own fruit at home? It is enjoyable to have a piece of nature in your kitchen and delicious enough to eat. We can teach you how to grow a vine-ripened fruit or a berry tree by following some easy steps. You can also learn how to preserve the fruits that you harvest and make them last longer.
A lush, green carpet of lawngrass is a beautiful sight to behold when carefully maintained (see photo, below). There are many ways in which homeowners can maintain this green carpet, but they should all be done with care and attention.
Lawngrass: Lawngrass is typically comprised of 2-6 species of grass that are grown together in one area (although some homeowners will grow a single type of grass). The most popular species is Kentucky bluegrass, which grows over a wide area, providing a thick and lush surface for the homeowner to enjoy throughout the summer months.
Lime and Proper pH: Grass is a calciphile and resents acid soil. You must be prepared to apply lime and fertilizer to keep it green and thick.
Watering: grass needs ample water if it is to remain green. When it gets too dry, it will go dormant. However, the timing of when you water is very important. If possible, avoid watering when the temperature is cool or you will get blue mold in your lawn.
Thatch: old dried grass clippings will nestle down between mowings and turn into tiny mats of ‘hay’, called thatch. Over time, this will cause a nice even lawn to form clumps. The remedy here, is to de-thatch (easily done with a tined rake like the one in the picture).
